In just a little more than a week and a half from now, Nintendo will release the Nintendo DS Lite -- a redesigned version of the original Nintendo DS system -- in Japan. Nintendo of America hasn't revealed an official date for the US release of the Nintendo DS, but we've been hearing rumblings from retailer sources that the day may be sooner than later.
According to rumors, Nintendo of America is prepping a release of the Nintendo DS for a day-and-date launch with one of the company's biggest titles for the system: New Super Mario Bros. The platformer has already been revealed for launch in the US for May 7th, and retail sources indicate that Nintendo of America will also use this date to release the Nintendo DS Lite system stateside.
Of course, this is not official by any means --
Nintendo is not yet ready to publicly reveal its final plans for the smaller, more slender DS system in North America or Europe.
