Classic

spacer.gif
spacer.gif

This is the classic single-player mode—hence the name, Classic.
In this mode, you try to clear each stage as you go.

Choose your favorite character and a difficulty level, then start the match!

Fight whoever appears!

The world you fight in is pretty much determined based on stage number. Stage 1 is based on The Legend of Zelda. Stage 3 is based on Pokémon. And each time, the characters are chosen randomly.
You’ll also find the status of enemies and rules of the match vary slightly to include things like Giant matches, Metal matches, and Team battles.

Heart icons indicate your allies.

You cleared the stage!

So... You just keep playing until you reach the end. Easy to understand, right?
Huh? You’re wondering what the coins on the Stage Clear screen are for? Um, you think they’re there to make it look more lively?
No, no. You earn and save these up little by little as you play. And supposedly you can use them somewhere. But no—you don’t use them to shop.

I was wondering if we can put our own music to the stages that we design, this would be the greatest idea of all time! I wanna play in a custom-built Kraid stage with it's music

if not, at least I want them to include Kraid music to the OST so we can include it in the stage. it's the greatest track of all time

Brinstar Depths

but I can't put my own mp3's, right?

I don't know if they included Kraid's stage in the previous titles, but I so want them to include it in this one

EDIT: I want custom tracks just to grap Kraid track 😛 I wish if they include it in the OST, it's awesome wallah

The Summit

The summit? The summit of what? If you must know, I suppose it’s the summit of Icicle Mountain. And I guess there are vegetables there after all.

In other words, it’s an Ice Climber stage.
At first glance, it appears to be a normal glacial peak. But after you fight for a while...

A pop! A crack! It’s breaking?!

Th-the terrain is sliding downhill!

It’s finally arrived at the sea. And with a splash, too!
Hmm. Talk about hectic. And rumor has it, you can’t get careless once you’ve reached the sea.

The polar bear is pushing the iceberg deeper!

A fish leaps out of the water!
I feel like I’ve seen that fish before somewhere... Where could it have been?

FTL :yuck:

Meta Knight: Final Smash

category_01.gif

<Galaxia Darkness>

Heh heh heh. I got it.
Meta Knight has gotten the Smash Ball. Behold!

metaknight_071101a-l.jpg

Take this!

metaknight_071101b-l.jpg

He swirls his cape out in a wide sweep, but if he swings and misses, nothing happens. It’s a waste of the Smash Ball. Be sure to hit with that swing of the
cape.

metaknight_071101c-l.jpg

This time, behold!

metaknight_071101d-l.jpg

The field is gradually engulfed in darkness.

metaknight_071101e-l.jpg

Toh!

The field is swallowed by darkness, and Meta Knight slices strongly through it. Enemies get launched helplessly. Talk about cool.
But there is even more coolness to this move.

metaknight_071101f-l.jpg

If there are others besides the enemy you hit with the cape...

metaknight_071101g-l.jpg

They get cut in the darkness, too!
So, while this move’s initial attack range is relatively narrow, if you hit with it, most everyone suffers. Aim well and sally forth.

Umm

Creat Player :slant:

Boshi

First and Only Appearance: Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, SNES, 1996

On his quest to reclaim the scattered Star Spirits in his first-ever role-playing game, Mario traveled to an island full of Yoshis to do a little resting, relaxing – and racing. Yo'ster Isle was the home of the Mushroom Kingdom's most well-worn racetrack, placed in the center of the Yoshi's village and used by the native long-tongued dinos as a means for entertainment and exercise. And the champion racer, intimidating all other lesser Yoshis around him, was Boshi.
Boshi is a Yoshi with style. Cool black shades and a spiked dog collar, ripped-up shoes and a bad attitude. He's like the anti-Yoshi, in the same way that Wario and Waluigi are the evil alternate versions of the Mario Bros. And he could work in Brawl perfectly well. As a "color swap" for Yoshi, he wouldn't change any of the standard green dino's moves – but he'd look cooler pulling them off. In the same way as Pichu, Pikachu and Jigglypuff have added pieces of clothing to their models as part of their color swaps in the past, so too could Boshi just be one of Yoshi's many alternate options, in the same roster space. Let's hope the relative ease of adding in those sunglasses makes Boshi a likely inclusion.

__________________________

Those of you unfamiliar with Boshi should be getting the chance soon to see him for the first time, in Super Mario RPG, when it ultimately comes to the Wii's Virtual Console. It was a game collaborated on by both Nintendo and Square, 11 years ago ... and now savvy long-time readers of Smash It Up! should be guessing that I'll spin that connection into justifying an all-Square Enix edition of the feature. But, surprise! Not going to happen. Instead, we're doing Capcom.

For no reason at all and with no good transition to fuel its introduction, this week's Smash It Up! is all about the characters of the Capcom company. We've had two previous editions of the column that focused on third-party suggestions – Konami's Crew and Sonic Team – and both were met with negativity, because the majority of fans believe that each contributing third-party company should only get one representative and be done with it. That's fair enough. But we haven't yet spent time speculating on which company will get the third third-party spot, or the fourth, or the fifth – you can go ahead and let go of the "Sakurai said only 1-2 more third-party spots" argument right now, because that's ridiculously outdated news. We know there are going to be more than that – count on it – so we're going to start pulling back the curtain on who it could be from a variety of possible companies.
From Capcom, the most likely option would probably be Mega Man. We've recognized that before, in Volume 8 of the series, and since we don't repeat character choices we won't bring him up again. But Capcom's a company with a wealth of great mascots beyond just the Blue Bomber – so what would it look like for one of them to get the call, instead of Mega? Here are our five next most likely characters to come from the Big C:

__________________________

super-smash-bros-brawl-20071102004355341.jpg

Ryu

First Appearance: Street Fighter, Arcade, 1987
Next Appearance: Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Xbox 360 & PS3, Coming in 2008

Capcom's signature fighting character, Ryu from the Street Fighter series has been headlining games in the head-to-head combat genre for two solid decades. His appeal is universal – he's the character that everyone can use with little trouble, and there's likely not a gamer alive who doesn't know how to throw a Hadoken with the classic quarter-roll-forward plus punch button combination. Translating his Street Fighter series moveset into Smash would be simple – it's easy to envision how his fireballs could be his Neutral B move, his Shoryuken rising uppercut as his Up + B recovery move, and his spinning Hurricane Kick as either a Down + B maneuver that does damage in a localized area around him, or as his Forward + B to cover horizontal distance quickly.
Ryu could conceivably cross over into Smash fairly easily, too, because of his history of crossing over in the past. He's been a part of the Marvel vs. Capcom fighting series, in which he went toe-to-toe with classic comic book characters like Wolverine and Spider-Man, and he's also faced off against the fighters of SNK is several more "vs." titles. Capcom seems keen on reinvigorating the Street Fighter brand right now, as well, with the recent announcement of Street Fighter IV and the upcoming Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix for Xbox 360 and PS3 – those games aren't announced for Wii, of course, but Konami seems to be using Snake's appearance in Brawl to promote their upcoming PS3 title, Metal Gear Solid 4, so could Capcom capitalize in the same way?

super-smash-bros-brawl-20071102004355825.jpg

Viewtiful Joe

First Appearance: Viewtiful Joe, GameCube, 2003
Most Recent Appearance: Viewtiful Joe: Red Hot Rumble, PSP, 2006

Henshin-a-go-go, baby! Good old Joe was just an average guy who loved to watch movies, until one day he and his girlfriend Sylvia found themselves sucked into a theater screen. There, trapped in the world of films, Joe had to learn how to become a superhero. He received a special watch from his Hollywood idol, Captain Blue, and transformed into Viewtiful Joe, gaining a variety of time-altering superpowers in the process. Viewtiful Joe can use Slow Motion to bring his enemies and the world around him to a crawl, while he continues to move at normal speed. He can use Mach Speed, to move at an incredible rate and run through dangerous areas in seconds flat. And he can Zoom in on the action, to stylishly duck and dodge around enemy attacks.
Many fans of Joe declared that he'd be a great addition to the Smash series soon after his arrival in 2003, and thought it likely then because of his original exclusivity to Nintendo. But though Joe was GameCube-only in the beginning, he eventually branched out onto other platforms. His most recent release was on the portable PlayStation system, and, interestingly, was a fighting game that could be called similar to Smash Bros. – but is it similar enough that he'd be able to take the next right step and enter the series proper? He'd be a blast to play in Smash, no doubt, and the ways in which his time-changing superpowers would be adapted into a Brawl moveset would definitely be creative. But most interesting, perhaps, would be the world he'd bring along with him – having a filmstrip-based, "world of the movies" fighting arena in Brawl would be something fans of Joe's series would love to see.

super-smash-bros-brawl-20071102004356137.jpg

Dante

First Appearance: Devil May Cry, PS2, 2001
Next Appearance: Devil May Cry 4, Xbox 360, PS3 & PC, Coming in 2008

Star of Capcom's Devil May Cry series, Dante is a red-cloaked, white-haired mercenary who hunts down demons for a living – and for revenge. A half-demon himself, Dante was forced to live through his human mother's murder as a child, and swore to get justice for her death against the devilish minions that killed her. Taking on the demonic powers of his father, Sparda, Dante can harness powerful transformation abilities to fight back against his enemies, but often relies on his twin handguns, Ebony and Ivory, to do the job for him.
Dante would be an unexpected but very cool character to have in Smash, and a Devil May Cry reference was made in the SmashBros.com blog's very first update, way back in May. Masato Kouda, a composer who's worked on both Capcom's Devil May Cry and Monster Hunter series, was listed as one of Brawl's contributing composers. Additionally, Dante's previously crossed over into several other games where he wouldn't normally belong, like the Viewtiful Joe series and one of the Shin Megami Tensei RPG adventures from Atlus. Were he to make the cut for the upcoming Smash, he'd bring an intense flavor to the game unmatched by any other character currently in the roster – and a Final Smash that saw him transforming into his Devil Trigger form would be insane to see.

super-smash-bros-brawl-20071102004355981.jpg

Zack & Wiki

First and Only Appearance: Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure, Wii, 2007

If you think Dante's a bit too extreme for the Smash series, then how about a pair of brand-new Capcom mascots who would perfectly fit in with Nintendo's more traditional, family-friendly style? Zack & Wiki are the freshest characters the company has, having only just arrived in their first ever game on Wii a handful of days ago. And as a fighting duo, they'd be a ton of fun to have in Brawl – just like in their game, Zack could shake Wiki like a bell to rattle opposing fighters and confuse them, even transforming them into "items" that could be picked up and thrown off the stage. (That could work, perhaps, like getting trapped in an egg by Yoshi – you could break free off it by quickly moving around.)
For their more basic moves, they'd simply utilize the tons of different pieces of equipment that they encountered from their quest to put Barbaros' body back together – Frog Bombs to cause explosive damage, the centipede saw for an edged melee weapon, even the Slither Gripper that could work as a tether recovery item or a way to make Zack's throws have more reach and power. Wiki's natural ability to fly could come into play, too, in the same way that many other flight-capable characters have been given multiple jumps or the gliding ability before. It would have taken a lot of forethought and planning ahead for Zack & Wiki to show up in Brawl, as both games overlapped in development from the beginning and the duo wasn't established in any other games before, but with the good relations Capcom and Nintendo have enjoyed for the past several years, it's certainly possible.

super-smash-bros-brawl-20071102004355528.jpg

Leon S. Kennedy

First Appearance: Resident Evil 2, PlayStation, 1998
Most Recent Appearance: Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, Wii, 2007

Finally, the Editor's Choice. Our own Mr. Matt Casamassina has expressed his desire to see Leon S. Kennedy come to Brawl on several occasions, and it's hard to argue with the request – Leon is an intimidating hero, and was the star of Resident Evil 4, one of the GameCube's best games. Leon's been a part of the Resident Evil series for almost ten years now, having first arrived in Raccoon City back in the second game, working for the local police department. He was one of the playable characters you could choose to fight back against the zombie outbreak then, and distinguished himself as a capable fighter and more-than-capable marksman, with his expertise in wielding the variety of firearms found throughout that adventure.
Guns of all shapes and sizes were against his main focus in RE4, which would mean that in bringing him to Brawl the design team responsible for crafting his moveset would have to get creative. Snake seems to have made the transition OK, giving up his sidearms for a set of weapons more focused on explosions, and Leon could do the same – see his rocket launcher he's holding right there. But we wouldn't want there to be too much similarity between Leon and Snake, would we?
It's safe to say that they'd find a way, if they wanted to, to make Leon work and have him be truly unique – and it's looking more likely that he could potentially be Capcom's choice thanks to the recent revelation that the Wii Edition of Resident Evil 4 has shipped over one million copies since its release a few months back. Capcom knows that there's an audience of Resident Evil fans who own Nintendo systems – moreso than Mega Man, moreso than Street Fighter – and if the company had to pick just one of its many series to get recognition in Smash Bros., it could very likely be the one infected with the T-Virus.

__________________________________

So what's your take? With more third-party characters on the way for Brawl, do you think that one will come from Capcom? And if so, who would it be – one of the five mentioned above? Or Mega Man? Or another choice we missed out on mentioning? We want to know what you think, so make your opinion known by leaving your comments below with the "Add Comment" feature, or by visiting our Smash Bros. message board. Your words could be chosen for inclusion in the next edition of our on-going series, so weigh in now. Henshin-a-go-go, baby!
