المزيد من المعلومات

-The Commander's Challenge which features over 50 different scenarios is very similar to the General's Challenge Mode. It is not, and I repeat not simply an achievement based mode. This is an entirely seperate component of Uprising comprised of over 50 different challenges which are almost like mini-missions with different objectives and challenges.

-Uprising WILL HAVE TRADITIONAL SKIRMISH MODE, so you will be able to play agianst the AI with the new units that have been added to each of the 3 factions. We're also adding a huge number of new maps. While this expansion add-on has a huge central focus on single player, we were able to incorporate traditional skirmish. See below for further explanation.

-While Red Alert 3 base game is still in its infancy, its important to us to continually give the game strong support with patches, tournaments, etc as it continues to evolve. Our objective with Uprising was not to quickly add a 4th faction to online play. We decided we would try something new and create a campaign expansion that delivered on exactly what many in the community asked for in our research - new UNIITS AND STORY. Uprising provides a continuation of the story line for each of the 3 factions, plus we’ve added a 4th mini-campaign which will be centered around the newest commando, Yuriko. We think you guys will really enjoy the Yuriko campaign and agree that it plays out like nothing you've seen before in a Command & Conquer game. While co-op nor multiplayer are not included with Uprising, we absolutely haven't forgotten our multiplayer audience and will have more info in the coming months ahead.

-Uprising will include a large amount of new multiplayer maps for skirmish play, which we will also make available in near future patches for the Red Alert 3 base game as well. That is pretty cool.

-Uprising will be available for digital download at first release through the EA Store this March, but please rest assured we are looking in to other distribution models which does include retail

-We have not determined the suggested retail price yet for Uprising, but part of the reason why we decided to become a digital download was so that we could pass some of the savings onto all of you out there. We realize that times are tough, so we are making sure that Uprising will be a great value and something that any Command & Conquer fan can afford. More on the exact price in the weeks to come.

PS3 to get 'Ultimate Edition' of Command & Conquer: Red Alert

Remember that PS3 version of Red Alert 3 that was "on hold"? Well it looks like it's back... and now it's "ULTIMATE".

Spotted on the EA Store (and since removed), Red Alert 3 "Ultimate Edition" adds a ton of content not included in last year's PC and Xbox 360 versions - but is pretty much all nothing to with actual gameplay.

The PS3 version includes "Bloopers & Outtakes, Behind the Scenes, developer strategy videos, and new battleground maps not found anywhere else!" Excitedly bellows EA's blurb.

Enjoy your favourite songs from the soundtrack and study tactics with the Unit Profiles video encyclopaedia. Watch the women of RA3 heat up the camera in the 'Girls of RA3' featurette -all presented in HD Blu-ray with enhanced visuals, and only for the PS3!"

- While plenty of games have been released on the PlayStation 3, the Real Time Strategy genre has been noticeably absent from Sony's most powerful console. That will change in late March when Electronic Arts releases Command & Conquer Red Alert 3: Ultimate Edition. Taking place in the revisionist history wing of the C&C universe, players will command everything from transforming robots, brutal attack bears and cute but deadly dolphins. But this isn't a simple port from the PC or the 360 version of the game; EA spent extra time trying to take advantage of everything the PS3 had to offer, tossing in bonus features and items for players.

We had a chance to talk to David Seeholzer, senior development director at EA Los Angeles, to find out more about the Ultimate Edition and what PS3 owners can expect when the game is released later this spring. How does the Ultimate Edition use the Blu-Ray capacity of the PS3? Are there any additions to multiplayer? Will any technical issues from the previous versions be addressed? The answers to these questions and many more lie below.

IGN: What's been added to the PS3 version of Red Alert 3 to make this the Ultimate Edition?

David Seeholzer: The additional time we had gave us this great opportunity to not only enhance the game's performance but also add all these cool perks for PS3 fans. The most obvious will be the additional content included in the "Extras" menu. We wanted to take advantage of the large capacity of the Blu-ray disc to include extra features – some of which were included in the PC Premier Edition and some of which are brand new and exclusive to the PS3 version. The Ultimate Edition is offering gamers better graphics, better performance, a ton of cool videos like Raising the Iron Curtain, our behind the scenes documentary, a lot of the trailers we made, such as the Girls of RA3, Bloopers & Outtakes and special PS3-specific editions of C&C TV's Command School and Battlecast Primetime. In addition to this, we have added the complete audio soundtrack, Trophies and VoIP support. I think players will also be happy to see that we are maxing out the disc's capacity to give them the ultimate experience for Red Alert 3 on the PS3 and a great value for their money.

IGN: Are there any new missions attached to the campaigns of the three factions within the Ultimate Edition? Will there be any connections or missions that will allude to the upcoming expansion, Uprising?

David Seeholzer: Our team was very pleased with each of the campaigns in Red Alert 3 and they remain unchanged in the PS3 version. However, we have included five additional new multiplayer/skirmish maps.

IGN: Will Uprising ever make its way to the consoles in the form of downloadable content?

David Seeholzer: The Uprising team is currently focused on the PC version.

IGN: Will there be any kind of downloadable content in the future?

David Seeholzer: We are dedicated to offering fans more new content for Red Alert 3 in the future and we'll have more to share on these plans at a later date.

IGN: Will there be any challenges or additional scenarios to expand on the Red Alert 3 play for the PS3 version?

David Seeholzer: Our focus on the PS3 has been making sure the game is brilliantly realized on that platform and takes advantage of the many unique advantages that it offers, a lot of which players will see in all of the Extras we've added.
Expect a refined control interface for the Ultimate Edition.

IGN: Console RTS fans have had issues with controls that aren't mouse and keyboard, arguing that it's less responsive. Will the Ultimate Edition include support for mouse and keyboard for the PS3, or has the CommandStick evolved to a point that it's comparable?

David Seeholzer: The team at EALA has been committed to furthering the evolution of RTS control on the console and we feel that with Red Alert 3, this interface has taken another strong step forward. A console controller certainly does present different mechanics than a mouse/keyboard combination, but this also gives us the opportunity to create a game that can be played on console the way people play on the couch, on the floor, or even on a beanbag chair. To me, this seems very reminiscent of the same debate that raged years ago regarding first-person shooters on the console. I don't think FPS would be such a vibrant and successful genre on console had game makers tried to work around the primary control mechanism rather than embracing it.

IGN: Another issue that cropped up with the 360 build was a lot of slowdown, particularly when large battles and explosions took place. How did you address this for the PS3 version of the game?

David Seeholzer: We have made a great many optimizations to the PS3 version of the game to address these issues. Some of these are boosts in the performance of systems such as visual effects and rendering and some are improvements to the AI and pathfinding logic.

IGN: Much has been made about the visual presentation of Red Alert 3 -- how has that been improved for the Ultimate Edition?

David Seeholzer: One of the major goals in developing this game for PS3 was improving performance and smoothness of gameplay, and we are extremely proud that we were able to do that without diminishing the visual presentation of the game.

You will notice an array of enhancements to the visual realization of the game; the most obvious is probably the water. For the PS3 we were able to use the more complex renderer from the PC version of the game. I think you can clearly see the difference and it is quite spectacular looking. We were also able to increase the resolution of things like cliff edges, shadows, scorch marks, etc. Some of these enhancements are pretty subtle, but they all contribute to giving the game a very sharp, consistent and appealing look.

IGN: Can you tell us a bit more about the new Battleground multiplayer maps? Are any of them based off of campaign levels--perhaps segments of cities that are mentioned or slightly explored in the single player game?

David Seeholzer: The Ultimate Edition will feature five new multiplayer/skirmish maps, which are absolutely new to the console experience; two of the maps are actually entirely exclusive to the PS3 version of Red Alert 3 and cannot be found on any other platform.

IGN: Will you be able to search for a random player to go on co-op or multiplayer missions with, or will you still be restricted to friend's lists?

David Seeholzer: Via quick match and custom match players can now connect with other gamers randomly. Of course, if you want to play with friends you can still use invites.
There are now more options for multiplayer skirmishes.

IGN: We've been told that you're taking advantage of the Blu-ray to add a lot of extra content. Can you tell us what some of those video features are? If some of them come from the Premier Edition, have they been expanded content-wise in any way?

David Seeholzer: Some, such as the Women of RA3, Raising the Iron Curtain, From Pens to Pixels and Bloopers and Outtakes movies were previously included on a separate DVD disc with the PC Premier Edition. We also have some really cool video features which were created exclusively for the Ultimate Edition: A special episode of Command & Conquer TV's Battlecast Primetime, which includes an interview with the general manager of our studio as well as a retrospective on the history of the Red Alert franchise, and a PS3 episode of Command School, a popular program where our developers give players tips, especially useful if you want to learn how to master the controls. Due to the large size of the Blu-ray disc we were also able to re-process these videos for higher bit-rate compression for even more of an HD experience.

IGN: There's a new feature, the Unit Profiles, that hasn't been in other versions. Is this like a compilation of the descriptive unit help videos found in the PC and 360 versions of the game, or is there extra content?

David Seeholzer: We noticed that the unit profiles that were in the PC version really help gamers to get a better understanding of the nuances each unit possesses, so we decided to use it in the PS3 version and make it more accessible.

IGN: Will PS3 owners receive any extra songs for the Red Alert 3 soundtrack?

David Seeholzer: The soundtrack for Red Alert 3 has been complete since the PC release last fall, but the music director re-mixed the entire soundtrack for the Ultimate Edition so PS3 fans actually get the best audio experience.

IGN: This is one of the first, if not the very first, EA RTS being published on the PS3. What took you so long?
David Seeholzer: It is a first time for EA and for Command & Conquer – and yes, doing it right has taken some time. Because of the PC heritage of Command & Conquer, the Xbox 360 was a somewhat more direct step in moving this franchise to console. Building upon that work for the PS3 has required a small but special team of people with just the right areas of expertise as well as a passion for making RTS on PS3 a success.
Battles should be huge without any of the old technical hiccups.

IGN: What are the differences with PS3 development compared to the other platforms?

David Seeholzer: Every platform is different, with unique benefits and challenges. The secret to making a new platform our own is to get in deep and understand how to take advantage of all the special things that hardware and system has to offer. The PlayStation 3 is a powerful system and while some of its architecture is unique and ultimately required unique solutions, the process for getting in and finding the ways to make the game sing isn't really different. It's just hard work, but a labor of love when it pays off with such great results.

IGN: Is there anything you'd like to pass along to C&C and RTS fans that have been waiting for Red Alert to come to the PS3?

David Seeholzer: We're very proud of this game and how it has turned out. We think we got a lot of the details right and have brought C&C to the PS3 with strength, while giving PS3 gamers some really cool extras on top that make the Ultimate Edition a really great package. We hope you agree and feel that it was worth the wait.

IGN: Thank you for your time, David
.
