مقابلة جديدة مع Patrice Desilets ال Creative Director للعبة :

NZGamer: Tell us a bit about yourself.
Patrice: I'm the creative director. That's my title. What does a creative director do? I'm responsible for the vision and the general quality of the game. I'm the director of the director's. You have art directors, level directors, and I'm their director. Making sure they're heading to the right place. I'm the one who comes in with the vision of the game after the brainstorming for the concepts come about.

NZGamer: For people who've just come out of comas, or have just time traveled from the 1800's, tell us about Assassin's Creed.
Patrice: (Laughs) So Assassin's Creed is about you playing as a master assassin Altair during the third crusade. You've been asked by your mentor to assassinate nine important people of the third crusade, to stop it, basically. You play this character which can interact with almost anything that you see. There are three big cities in which you can play which are based on historical maps. Assassin's Creed is a toy and a game.

NZGamer: A Toy?
Patrice: What I mean by this is that you can also just have fun with the character and the world he which he lives. It's really a sandbox.

NZGamer: Previously, you've said Assassin's was more a flowerbox as opposed to a sandbox...
Patrice: Yeah, I said that (laughs). In French it really does sound a lot better. In sandbox games the story is really secondary to the action. In Assassin's the story element, the narrative, is just as important as the toy. So everything you do in side-quests and in missions is what drives forward the story. So for example, when you enter a city and you must investigate a target you get the story. You may have to eavesdrop on some people talking about your target – you will learn more and get more story. You may pick someones pocket and find a document which explains what's going on. Story.

This is why I said it was a flowerbox as the narrative is a lot more straight forward than a sandbox game. But! That was more at the beginning, now that the game is nearly finished, it's still a big sandbox game. You can do whatever you want, you can play in the Kingdom for 15 hours straight and do it without any consideration for the story.

NZGamer: What feature of Assassin's Creed, in your opinion, is most likely to distinguish it from other games in the genre ?
Patrice: You can climb almost anything - the architecture element. If there's something which sticks out more than ten centimeters you can climb it. So if you look around in the game, all the buildings are climbable.

NZGamer: After spending sometime with Assassin's we noticed that Altair had a lot in common with an Eagle. Some of his moves are named in bird-like ways and he even has an eagle vision mode. To top if off, when Altair jumps his cloak spreads out and makes him look like an eagle. Was having Altair be an Eagle a deliberate approach?
Patrice: It was entirely intentional. When we come up with a character we try to figure out what he likes, what he doesn't like. Also, what would be a good animal to describe him. And we came up in a brainstorm about Altair being a bird of prey. An eagle, but mostly a bird of prey as that's what an assassin is – a character which is really subtle, looking for his prey and then bam! (He) Suddenly attacks, and has to get out there just as quickly. It's a good way of describing the character. The Prince (of Prince of Persia) at the time was a puma!

Once you have that it makes it easier to answer all the questions that would arise when you design a game and it's characters.

NZGamer: Tell us about your cut-scenes and how to they differ from most games.
Patrice: You enter a “memorable moment”, this is like other games, a cinematic. But unlike other games where you'd just put the pad down and wait for it to be over to start playing again. In Assassin's Creed you never lose control of the character. When you start Assassin's Creed, you have 25 hours of game-play in front of you – you'll never stop controlling the main character. It was something which was really important, personally, for the game. It's not a movie. It's a game. You play the entire experience.

NZGamer: On the internet there have been huge dramas over a comment during an interview you made regarding technical issues on the 360 and PS3. Want to clear that up for us?
Patrice: (Laughs) Well, I wasn't supposed to answer that question the first time. Basically my role isn't the technical side of the game but I was asked what were the biggest challenges we faced... Maybe, also, it was my English as I'm not very good with my tenses. I mean, the game is almost gold, so it'll be on DVD on the 360, everything which needed to be figured out for the PS3. We didn't cut anything, it's all there.

Another thing, when I did that interview, it was in September, there was an embargo, and they couldn't print it for another three weeks. So the “problems” were being reported when it wasn't the case. The game will be out on time, on both platforms, and everything is fine. There really is no issue!

NZGamer: These days, most games and even movies opt out of their authenticity by giving characters of other decent english accents in situations where they should really be speaking their native tongue. Since Assassin's takes place in a more racially intermingled time what can we expect in terms of authenticity?
Patrice: Alright, sometimes you'll here some barks in French, German, or Italian because he Crusaders were coming from all over Europe. We wanted to give that feeling of an international army. But the most important parts will be in English (or German, Italian, Japanese, depending on which localised version you're playing on). But you will be in English, don't worry!

NZGamer: We noticed that Altair speaks English... but American English. Was that deliberate?
Patrice: Yes.
NZGamer: Yes?
Patrice: Yes.
NZGamer: ...
Patrice: It's deliberate, as to the real “why”, you'll get it afterwards, I can't tell you why it's American English, but it's justified. It's one of the mysteries of the game, but after 25 seconds, maybe 45 seconds, into the game, you'll get it. All this stuff isn't a gimmick. We're not going to say “oh! But you were dreaming the whole time!”.

NZGamer: What can you tell us about the fu-
Patrice: Futuristic stuff in the game? I can't answer any of those questions. The best I can give you is “No”, “I don't know” or something like that. You'll get it early on in the game (laughs).

NZGamer: It was worth a try.
Patrice: You're not the first!

NZGamer: Development on the game began four years ago, before the next-generation was even announced. Do you think that since that time you've been able to do everything you set out to do?
Patrice: Yes, definitely. Back then the magic number for NPC's on screen at the same time was 35, now we have 120! In the beginning we were aiming for a more linear game, now we have three big cities and no paths! So we really opened it up and made it even better than we set out.

NZGamer: The games graphics have been getting a lot of attention, which is fair, but playing through the game today we noticed that sound played a big part too.
Patrice: Oh yeah, we have around 6,000 bits of ambient dialogue. Then you add up all the narrative bits. There was a lot of work with sound because it's half of the game. The living and breathing world isn't only about animation and behaviors. You have to hear it.

NZGamer: The HUD is something which we were able to get a good look at today, can you explain it for us?
Patrice: In the top-right hand corner we have our health bar and social status bar. If you have the bar show up with a yellow triangle-eye it means a guard can see you but isn't alerted to the presence of an Assassin in town. So he isn't actively searching, looking for you. If the eye turns red, that means it's an informed guard and you'll begin an open conflict if you do anything suspicious – you'll have to hide to bring the meter back to white.

NZGamer: Were there ever any thoughts about multiplayer?
Patrice: No, this is Assassin's. It's what you'll be playing. Coming up with it was quite a challenge. It's the same core team behind Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, and we're really into our single-player games. From the beginning we said we'll focus on the single-player experience... then we'll see (about multiplayer).

NZGamer: Recently Nintendo unveiled an impressive release list for the next two quarters...
Patrice: Ohh...
NZGamer: Are you able to tell us anything about the Nintendo DS Assassin's?
Patrice: Ummm.... No. We're doing it, that's all I can talk about.

NZGamer: Walking around a city in Assassin's the NPC's (non-playable characters) don't look, or behave, quite the same. What is behind that?
Patrice: We have around 200 NPC's, character models. Then, in the engine we have something which mixes them up. Not only that but we have specific characters depending on which district you're in. If you're in the rich district you'll see people who look richer. Something I told the Assassin's team is that we have to look at costumes in relation to the character. When you have a monster it's easy to embody the character in their look but we're dealing with humans. This is a historic game, but without any giant enemy crabs (Laughs). Just like a movie, it's a historic piece. This is the crusades.

NZGamer: So what's next for the Assassin's Creed team?
Patrice: Vacation.

NZGamer: So, Assassin's Creed 2, then?
Patrice: Vacation! That's all I can talk about (laughs).

NZGamer: Thanks for your time, Patrice.
Patrice: Thank you.

When it comes to the nitty-gritty of assassination, the game does a fine job of allowing players to tackle missions in a way that best suits their playing style. And for every player who enjoys sneaking into enemy fortresses to silently slaughter their quarry, there will be others who prefer a more direct assault on the castle gates, AC’s simple interface making either strategy a cinch to execute and allowing even the most cack-handed player to look like a gaming god.

Ironically, though, the game’s friendly controls are also its biggest shortcoming; killing your target normally instigates a chase sequence where you freerun across the rooftops and make fearsome leaps of faith to dodge your pursuers. But as there’s no jump button and your hero will perform most acrobatic moves automatically - Legend Of Zelda-style - the controls strip the game of the visceral thrill of making moves at precisely the right moment like you did in the developer’s earlier Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time, making AC’s most exciting moments feel flat and as if they’re being played by someone else.

Famitsu 360 (Not so be confused with regular Famitsu)

10,8,9,10 - 37/40

2000858416695801014_rs.jpg

Quick summary:

•Story is totally engrossing, like a great movie.
•Feels like a real next-gen action game.
•One-button combat is somewhat unsatisfying, but will make the game accessible to more people.
•Story, worldview, presentation all top-notch.
•At times the map is hard to make out and there are bad camera angles. There are lots of little annoying things like that. (From the 8 review)
•The acrobatic play mechanics are totally addicting

مممم بصراحه انا اوافق هذا
•One-button combat is somewhat unsatisfying, but will make the game accessible to more people.
