Want a Second PSN Account on Your Vita? Buy an Extra Memory Card
Each person who wants to use their own PSN account will need a Vita memory card.
It was recently reported that the PlayStation Vita would not allow for more than one account to be attached to the system at any time. Supposedly the only way to switch PSN accounts would be to do a factory reset. While that is the only method available to those with a single memory card, purchasing an extra memory card will allow you to use an additional PSN account on the same system.
The exact details of how this work were explained to Wired by Sony associate brand marketing manager Crystal MacKenzie yesterday. She stated that PSN accounts are tied to the memory card, not the system itself. "So if you wanted to change different PSN users but use the same memory card, you would need to go factory reset," she said.
If you'd rather not factory reset the system each time you want to change PSN accounts -- and that is presumably true of most people -- the alternative is to purchase an extra memory card for each additional PSN account you want to be able to log in to. In other words if you were to share the system with someone, each of you would need a memory card with your respective PSN account on it.
PSN accounts aren't locked to a single memory card, so it will be possible to own multiple memory cards that share the same account.
This solution isn't ideal due to the high costs of Vita's proprietary memory cards. It does however open the door for something gamers did on PSP and PS3, which is to open an account with a foreign PlayStation Store (Europe or Japan, for those in North America) for the purpose of downloading games not available in their region. That luxury will simply come at the cost of those memory cards, and an inability to share downloaded games or downloadable content with other PSN account holders.
