Setting: Nintendo President Satoru Iwata's office, 2 months before the Tokyo Game Show. Across the desk from him, the gaming god with the eternal grin, Shigeru Miyamoto. Iwata's brow is furrowed, he is perplexed and troubled by Miyamoto's latest proposal.*
Miyamoto: Come now, Iwata-dono. Revolution's controller is nearly finalized, so we can start seriously developing software for it.
Iwata: I know that, we will have several tech demos available at TGS, so this isn't really necessary.
Miyamoto: Really, it will be great! In 6 or so months, we can have it all ready to go.
Iwata: 6 more months? This was supposed to be ready for Fall this year, the fans will be outraged.
Miyamoto: Yeah, the fans will be pissed. But they've been waiting 5 years for this realistic Zelda, 6 months shouldn't too much. In the 6 months, we can make Twilight Princess playable with the 'freehand controller' (Nintendo's official nickname for the remote).
At this point, Iwata buries his face in his hands, contemplating this decision. He believes Miyamoto, but delaying their last and greatest product for the Gamecube could be troublesome. Miyamoto continues.
Miyamoto: Besides, the Revolution is backwards compatible. In the past, I have made Zeldas for the Gameboy family for one generation, which had additional features on the next generation. Legend of Zelda DX was for the original Gameboy, but when played in the GBC you got full colour and an extra dungeon. My Oracles games were made for the GBC, but when played on the GBA you get exclusive items and more things.
This wasn't possible on consoles before, because you can't stick a Famicom cart into a SFC (NES to SNES)or anything, but the Revolution can take the Gamecube games! It can work!
Even if it is just a gimmicky, simple thing that allows you to sword fight or shooting arrows, it will be a tribute to the Revolution's ability."
Iwata leans back in his chair and sighs heavily.
Iwata: Fine, Miyamoto-dono. I trust you with this. You're a big reason we're still as profitable as we are today. Who else could have come up with Nintendogs?
Hours later, the world groans in agony as the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is pushed back for a Spring 2006 release. If they only knew what they were really in for...
