Size
Smaller and less wide than the pictures lead you to believe. It's only a tiny bit wider than the former full-sized iPod, 60% as depth-thick (to put it in perspective, a 4th gen pre-photo iPod dock fits the iPod (video) perfectly. The click-wheel is a little bit larger, but the same kind as the iPod nano's. Does not feel at all distracting in the pocket.
Sound Quality
Same as the other iPods minus the shuffle.
Picture Quality
The bigger screen allows for bigger, and more detailed photos. They look great, and seem to load up a bit faster.
Battery Life
14 hours for the 30GB model (versus 20 for the 60GB model). 2 hours for movies. My tests are pretty spot on with Apple's times.
iTunes video quality
I bought an episode of Lost (2.1) and it really looks great on the iPod. Of course making them larger will show flaws in the quality, so don't rely on iTunes for TV-quality content. All the detail is there, and there's no hint of pixelation on the iPod.
Screen quality
I think I have a dead pixel, but I can't be sure. Knowing Apple's policy for their laptops, I doubt I'll get a replacement if I wanted one. No big deal.
