Atonement في صالات السينما الأمريكية , كيف استقبله النقاد و الصحافه ؟

استقبل النقاد و الصحافة فيلم Atonement بشكل مبشر للغاية و يبدو أن الغالبية سعيدين بما قام به جو رايت من جهد في عمله الدرامي الأخير المقتبس من رواية ماك ايوان التي تحمل نفس الاسم .

قال الناقد الكبير Roger Ebert :

"The structure of the McEwan novel and this film directed by Joe Wright is relentless."

لفت نظري أول ما عرفت إنه Ellen Page فيه ! .. أداءها كان جداً ممتاز في Hard Candy.

مؤخراً فازت إلين بجائزة جوثام على دورها في Juno , هذه مقابلة عملتها مع موقع Coming Soon وفيها تطرق إلى إحتمالية فوزها بوحدة من جوائز الأوسكار ( بذكر أهم ما جاء فيها كون المقابلة طويلة شوية) :

CS: Congratulations on receiving the Gotham Award earlier this week. You really deserved it.
Ellen Page: Oh yeah. Thanks. I really genuinely didn't think I was going to win. It was very cute. Jason Reitman was very cute.

CS: On the subject of awards, you must have heard everyone saying, "Oscar for Ellen! Oscar for Ellen!" Do you pay attention to any of that?
Page: I try not to think about it. To be honest when I first read the script, Diablo wrote something so amazing I became relatively obsessed with playing this role, so when I got to do it, I was through the moon ecstatic and working with the people I got to work with was an enormous gift. And I really mean that, you know? To do this film in the first place was so amazing in itself and now that all this is happening it's just extremely surreal. So I'm just kind of like, "Well, we'll see what happens." I've seen "For Your Consideration," you know?

CS: How do you approach a comedy like this differently from doing a drama?
Page: I don't know. It's interesting. I think I've done some films that have an element of emotional extremity and oddly I think there's an illusion that that's more difficult acting and it can be more difficult to just be and to just be as genuine as possible. For a film like "Juno," I felt like if it was at all forceful than it would have become contrived and annoying and a lax and kind of a genuine emotion that allows for the heart to connect. If you lose that, well you've lost me for one thing. I'm very much like you gotta get me here or, you know? So often movies that everyone on the planet likes, I don't like, 'cause I'm just like I can't connect to this at all. I think it's about connecting. It's always about connecting. I'm totally rambling. I think with something like "Juno" there's more of a fine line I suppose.

CS: How did you find the physicality of the role, being eight months pregnant?
Page: Intimidated at first, but I actually watched other films. Michael Winterbottom's "Wonderland," I don't know if you've seen that. Amazing movie. And Molly Parker, a Canadian actress, is pregnant in that and gives birth. I remembered that because I love that film and I was like, "I'm going to watch that and completely rip her off." So shout-out to Molly Parker, and yeah, I bought "Pregnancy for Dummies."

واو 7 أفلام في قائمة أفضل فيلم درامي ! التنافس قوي جدا , بالعادة تكون 5 أفلام فقط!

من ناحية الأفلام الدرامية , فيلم دينزل واشنطن The Great Debaters ما توقعت شخصيا ترشيحه , غيابه عن أهم الجوائز و عدم صدوره للآن جعلوا ترشيحه مفاجئة .

Cate Blanchett نجمة التمثيل هذا الموسم , ترشيحين لدورين يعتبرون الأقوى في مسيرتها السينمائية , هل تفعلها بترشيحين في الأوسكار أيضا ؟ احتمال وارد! , من نظرة شخصية لمسئلة الفوز ,لا أعتقد انه الفوز في فئة أفضل ممثلة من نصيبها لوجود Julie Christie من فيلم Away From Her و الي بشكل 90% هي المستلمة للجولدن جلوب و الأوسكار كما تشير التوقعات , و لكن من ناحية أفضل ممثلة مساعده , فهي الأقرب للجائزة .

جميع التوقعات تشير الى ان الجائزة ( و الأوسكار أيضا ) من نصيب جورج كلوني , لا يستريح هذا الانسان رغم فوزه بالاوسكار سابقا في 2005 , غياب براد بيت غير متوقع خصوصا بعد فوزه ببعض المواسم بدور جيسي جيمس , و شخصيا سعيد من ترشيح James McAvoy في اتونمنت , أبدع .

من ناحية أفضل فيلم كوميدي أو موسيقي , يبدو انها محسومه لجونو , Charlie's war ؟ احتمال و بتكون مفاجئة قوية .

فيليب هوفمان أيضا ترشح مرتين لفلمين مختلفين , The Savages و Charlie Wilson's War , يقف بنجومية التمثيل لهذا العام بجانب كيت بلانشيت .

هذا العام في فئة التمثيل في طفلتين بالواقع , الين بيج من جونو و رونان من أتونمنت , في السنوات الأخيره أصبح للأطفال اهتمام في مجال التمثيل الواقعي .

Not wild for Wild?
After Into the Wild scored the most nods from the broadcast critics, it only managed two Globe nominations, for its music. Was Sean Penn mean to the voters or something?

No room for Tommy Lee Jones
The guy who turned in arguably two of the best performances of the year (in No Country for Old Men and In the Valley of Elah) got snubbed in both acting races. There's simply no excuse for the oversight.

Where was Knocked Up?
Easily the best-reviewed comedy of the year got no love at all, not Best Picture, not Best Actress for Katherine Heigl, not Best Supporting Actor for Paul Rudd — nothing. Was it punishment for Heigl's very uncool trashing of the film in Vanity Fair?

Two drag nominations
No surprise that Cate Blanchett made it into the supporting-actress category for playing Bob Dylan in I'm Not There. But John Travolta's nod for his priceless gender-bending in Hairspray was unexpected — particularly because it denied Into the Wild's heartbreaking Hal Holbrook a slot.

“Into the Wild,” “”3:10 to Yuma,” “Gone Baby Gone” “Starting Out in the Evening,”" and “Jesse James” All needed some picture or director love to get their campaigns in gear and none was forthcoming. They picked up the odd award, but nothing to build a campaign on. (The Bagger had also listed “Diving Bell” and “Kite Runner” in this category until a reader pointed out that they won in foreign, the only category they were eligible in.)

Marginal players

Films like “Once” and “Waitress” could have been pulled off the sidelines and into the fray by a big nomination, but got no breaks. (The Bagger is really pissed about “Once,” but he’ll keep his feelings out of it for the moment.)

Two legit shots at nominations — “3:10″ and “Gangster” –and nothing to show.

Focus Features

It led with 11 total nominations and “Atonement,” which had seemed to be losing momentum, had its sails filled with seven of them — screenplay, directing, picture, both lead roles, a supporting role, you name it. And another Focus title, “Eastern Promises,” a previously neglected serious film, got some oxygen in best picture.

“Charlie Wilson’s War”

A movie that has yet to open has a lot to gain from Globe noms. In a year when any movie that had a hint of warfare in it tanked at the box office, the Globe exposure gives audiences — and Academy members, btw — permission to head into the seats with an open mind. Aaron Sorkin said it best on the phone today” “It is very helpful, not just because of a movie that has not opened yet, but people aren’t quite sure what to make of this movie. This is a signal that when they come, they are in for a good time, in part because it was nominated in the comedy category.”

QUARKS

Jodie Foster and Angelina Jolie

One got a nod for “The Brave One”, an almost unwatchable flop. The other got one for “A Might Heart,” among the noble but mostly unseen films of the year. Remember, the HFPA is trying to cite great work, but they are also casting an awards show. They need names, heat and sizzle. Hence Foster and Jolie even if their movies did not connect.

Adaptation

Only one of the screenplays cited was original. Adapation is the rage.

Seven Films for Best Drama

Why add two to the traditional five choices? The HFPA is a small group, in which a few people make a difference, and this is a year with many commendable films, but no dominators, so the foreign press folks decided the best choice was more choices.
