"To be sure, harping on single-player A.I. and missed opportunities (where's the online mode?) is missing the point of Soul Calibur III and fighting games in general. While it's admirable that Namco tried to the bar when it came to the solo portion of the game, it's quite obvious that several of the mini-games miss their mark. But if you go into Soul Calibur III expecting the best one-on-one fighting game of the last several years, you'll be absolutely thrilled with how much content the team managed to cram onto this DVD. Playing a new Soul Calibur is like embarking on a two year (or however long it takes Namco to release the next game) journey into personal mastery, constantly pushing yourself and your friends to become better players. That's the mark of a transcendent fighting game, and Soul Calibur III has the makings of a classic."
