Nintendo executive Shigeru Miyamoto, doesn't think the announcement really affects his company's next-gen machine, the Revolution. He shared his feelings, or lack thereof, with The Guardian.

"We don't see it as a competition between [the PS3 and Revolution], although the customers always do," said Miyamoto, the creator of games such as Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda. "Sony has taken a long time to create their machine but it is obvious that the direction we are taking [with the Revolution] is different [than the direction Sony is taking with] the PS3."

Nintendo has not yet set a release date for the Revolution.

"For Nintendo we don't care because what we're trying to do is different from Sony," said Miyamoto, referring to the possibility of the PS3 launching at the same time as the Revolution. Besides, Miyamoto wasn't at all shocked by the PS3's new November launch. "The announcement was not surprising because everyone in this industry knew for a very long time that Sony was never going to be able to do a spring launch for PS3. If there was a surprise, it's that Sony waited so long to make the announcement."

Miyamoto laughed at the idea that Xbox parent company Microsoft would one day buy Nintendo. "We are two separate companies with completely different cultures. That's the last question we expected!"
"Nintendo is always thinking of the customer. What is the interesting, unique entertainment we can create for the mass audience. I don't think that concept is shared by Microsoft when they're trying to create their online [game] business."
