Update: Anouma on Twilight Princess, Revolution Connection
In a recent interview with Japanese media
Twilight Princess Producer Eiji Anouma expanded on previous statements saying, "[The game] will use Revolution hardware, but not in the way most people expect, like slashing a sword, for example. No one would expect to use Revolution's Virtual Console Download system, so it may very well be something as simple as that. Players would purchase Rupees using Virtual Console and Nintendo Wi-Fi, and download them to a Revolution memory card where they can be spent in-game. I do not know what the conversion rate of Yen or Dollars to Rupees will be yet, but there is already a precedent for such an exchange of currency with our DS franchise,
Animal Crossing: Wild World. Players exchange real money for Bells over the Internet, so we would just be bringing that concept to a more trusted system - the Virtual Console."
When pressed about whether or not players will want to spend more money for in-game money, Anouma replied, "We can see this is already the case with
Wild World, players want to invest more in the game beyond the initial cost and time investments. Besides, this type of Rupee earning would be more realistic, more 'adult' than our previous methods of just cutting grass or breaking a pot. Real money is not so easy to get!" (
