Sony’s critically acclaimed ‘Shadow of the Colossus’ (PS2) towers above EA’s top-selling franchises to claim No1 spot in the All Formats Entertainment Top 40, proving that there is room for beautifully realised and artistically creative IP at the top of the Charts. ‘Shadow of the Colossus’ debuts ahead of Lucasarts’ first ever Star Wars RTS game ‘Star Wars: Empire at War’ (PC) which is a new entry at No2.
Sony’s PS2 ‘Colossus’, the sequel to ‘Ico’, which itself comes back into the Top 40 at No23 thanks to a much overdue re-release, becomes the first Sony title to reach No1 in the All Formats Top 40 since ‘Ridge Racer’ on PSP back in September 2005. EA’s ‘Need for Speed: Most Wanted’ drops down from No1 to No3, dashing hopes of an 11th week at No1 - a feat which has not been achieved for the last five years. EA’s blockbuster franchises are sticking together at the top of the chart with the ‘The Sims 2’ and ‘FIFA 06’ both dropping 2 places to No5 and No6 respectively, while ‘Rugby 06’ (PS2/XB/PC) charges from No5 to No4. Take 2’s ‘Torino 2006’ benefits from growing interest in the Winter Olympics, breaking into the Top 10 at No7, while Buena Vista Games’ ‘Chicken Little’ is this week’s highest climber, up 18 places from No28 to No10. Atari’s graffiti-themed ‘Marc Ecko’s Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure’ (PS2/XB/PC) makes its mark at No25.
