Secret sources have revealed to CVG that the first game to emerge from the mega-publisher's much-touted collaboration with Steven Spielberg will be set in World War II and will let you play as the one of the first Secret Service agents. Apparently it will come across as James Bond meets Medal Of Honor, neatly fusing two existing EA franchises (the latter of which gave Spielberg his first taste of working on a videogame).
Electronic Arts has admitted it is working on a major new franchise with Spielberg and now that the game is in development, it must be itching to unveil it (which will surely come to pass at E3). The fact that Spielberg is a keen gamer has been common knowledge for a long time - he appeared very publicly at last year's E3, stopping to play Vivendi Universal's F.E.A.R at one point - and according to our sources, his enthusiasm for games was fuelled by the N64 classic GoldenEye, which, at the time, he thought would benefit from being transplanted to a WWII setting.
It was during World War II that modern Secret Services first emerged in any credible form, although the British Secret Service was originally founded in 1909. The Special Operations Executive was particularly active in Europe throughout WWII and had many American operatives, so it is likely that it could form the basis for Spielberg's as-yet untitled game (which is one of three projects he is overseeing for EA). No doubt, all will be revealed - amid much fanfare - at E3 in May.
