Crysis Developers Announce New Engine: CryEngine 3
Technology designed for PCs, console and "all major upcoming platforms."
No rest for the developers of Crysis. Crytek, who recently acquired the remnants of fallen studio Free Radical Design, has announced they will premiere the next iteration of their engine technology, CryENGINE 3, at the Game Developers Conference later this month in San Francisco.
CryENGINE 3 is designed for use on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PCs with Direct X9 and X10, MMOs and is also what Crytek's calling "truly Next-Gen-ready." The technology will apparently be scalable for "all major upcoming platforms." Hypothetically, PlayStation 4, Xbox 720 -- whatever the next slate of consoles are called.
"Our complete game engine solution enables realtime development, ensures teams are able to maximise their own creativity, saves budget and creates greater gaming experiences," said Crytek president, CEO Cevat Yerli in the press release. "Also with our solution developers can start working on their next generation games today."
