Goalkeeper
Mohammed Kassid (Iraq) – The 2009 Confederations Cup wasn't a great tournament for goalkeepers, and Kassid was one of the few to impress. Kept two clean sheets, and conceded just one goal in three games, against Spain.
Defence
Maicon (Brazil) – Twice made 'Team of the Round', scoring against the United States, and providing a number of assists, there can be little doubt that Maicon is the best right-back in the world.
Lucio (Brazil) – Brazil's best 'defender' during the competition, the Bayern Munich man also proved very dangerous at corners down the other end, and he scored the winner in the final that won the cup.
Matthew Booth (South Africa) – The symbol of South Africa's journey to fourth place. A towering presence at the heart of the Bafana Bafana defence, Booth showed real heart.
Tsepo Masilela (South Africa) – Consistently impressive down the left hand side throughout the competition. Defended well, and was exciting going forward too.
Midfield
Clint Dempsey (United States) – Showed himself to be a man for the big occasion by scoring in both the semi-final and the final. The Fulham star has come on leaps and bounds in the last year or so.
Felipe Melo (Brazil) - What a difference Felipe Melo has made to Brazil since debuting in February. The Fiorentina man was a rock in the middle-of-the-park, heading home against the USA in the groups. Can now be considered as one of the world's best all-round midfielders.
Kaka (Brazil) – Real Madrid will be delighted to have Kaka on board based on his performances in South Africa. Electric throughout, scoring twice against Egypt, offering a number of assists, and instigating Brazil's attacks.
Attack
David Villa (Spain) – Scored in all of the group games, and although he was slightly under-par in the semi-final and third-and-fourth playoff, the Spaniard still deserves his place in Team of the Tournament.
Luis Fabiano (Brazil) – Won the Golden Boot after scoring five goals, two of which were in the final against America. A much maligned player is Fabiano, but he hit back at his critics in South Africa.
Landon Donovan (United States) - USA's best player in each of their three group games, scoring against Italy, causing havoc in the 3-0 win over Egypt, and also finding the net in the final. A contender for Player of the Tournament, and easily good enough to be playing in Europe.
