ierra 117 - Blind Skull
Effect
HUD and weapon graphic are removed.
Preparation
None.
Location
At the first Convenant shuttle drop (Phantom), there is a cliff overlooking a
bottomless water pit; check the cliff's edge for a rock outcrop with this
skull.
(ABOVE) Follow this river near the Covenant shuttle drop and go to the edge of
the cliff.
(ABOVE) Without falling off, you should be able to locate a rock outcropping
with the skull easily.
Sierra 117 - Iron Skull
Effect
Dying restarts players at start of the stage, not from checkpoint.
Preparation
None.
Location
Near the train depot where Sgt. Johnson is held. The bridge where the hammer
using Brute is, players can jump onto the sides and onto the side of the train
depot. Follow the walkway around the big building to get to the skull (see
image).
(ABOVE) The skull is on the upper walkway of the big train shed building in
the distance.
(ABOVE) Get up there using the wall and boxes to the side of the bridge with
the hammer Brute.
Crows' Nest - Blackeye Skull
Effect
Shields recover only from successful melee attack.
Preparation
None.
Location
In the room where Master Chief starts off (where Cmdr. Keyes delivered her
briefing). The large pipe suspended above the room has the skull. Jump to it
using the various elements in the room.
(ABOVE) The skull is on the large brown pipe above the command center.
(ABOVE) Getting to the pipe's top is a simple exercise in jumping and using
the red girder.
Crows' Nest - Grunt Birthday Skull
Effect
Headshots produce confetti.
Preparation
None, but ready to restart from last checkpoint.
Location
After defending the hangar, players are sent to the barracks. The skull is
under a hallway with small sewer tunnels and the flying aliens flitting in and
out. Before dropping off the maintenance tunnel, players can nudge themselves
into the lower room with a well controlled fall. If players fail, immediately
restart from the checkpoint, since there is another checkpoint at the bottom
of the fall.
(ABOVE) This is the maintenance hallway you need to go under for the skull.
(ABOVE) Drop off the edge of the floor and redirect yourself into the
underpassage with the joystick.
Tsavo Highway - Tough Luck Skull
Effect
Enemies always dodge your shots and grenades.
Preparation
None.
Location
After disabling the anti-vehicle energy field in the tunnel, there will be a
large oil pipeline to the left of the main road. Get onto the pipeline and
look for one of its supports (it is almost all the way down the canyon drop).
Follow the concrete support to the end and there will be a rock outcropping
with the skull. Work back towards the road once you are done, and should go
under the highway and get back on solid ground.
(ABOVE) This is the only Alaskan oil pipeline (in Africa) in the game. Locate
it and stop the car.
(ABOVE) Jump on the pipeline, then over the security fence. Look down from the
pipeline and you should find this suspicious looking concrete support a ways
down the canyon.
(ABOVE) The skull is on a rocky ledge near the concrete support. Jump for it.
The Storm - Catch Skull
Effect
Enemy grenades are super-fast.
Preparation
Two or more players are needed (or risk using a grenade jump on solo play).
Location
At the first beach, players need to destroy two anti-air Wraiths (enemy
tanks). Ignore the tanks (you can destroy the enemy Ghosts) and alocate a
small silo like structure. The skull is on top of this structure. Use the
transport Warthog on the beach (or keep the ones you started with) as an extra
step to reach the top of the silo. Another player (or deployable cover atop a
vehicle) is the best method to add height to one's jump. Note that destroying
both Wraiths (by you or by allies) will delete the skull (new map, new
checkpoint).
There have been rumors floated from Dennis Chang that some Halo 3 players have
not been able to find this skull even if the anti-air Wraiths are left
unmolested. IGN recommends checking back on the replay of the level (in
theater mode) using the free floating camera to see when the skull appears and
disappears on that building (you can see it spawn and vanish if it is not
picked up). Ultimately, when Johnson radios in and urges Master Chief and
party to move on, chances are likely that a new map is loaded (although a
checkpoint is a better indication of a new map load).
(ABOVE) The silo is on the first beach (not the beach with the Scarab).
(ABOVE) You need a second player or some dedployable cover to get this skull.
Note that if both anti-air Wraiths are blasted, the skull will vanish (check
the replay).
Floodgate - Fog Skull
Effect
Player motion radar is removed.
Preparation
None, but be prepared to restart from checkpoint. Two or more players firing
their weapons will easily nab this target.
Location
Within a minute or two from starting the stage, players will encounter the
outskirts of a destroyed city. On the right, there is a flaming office
building. Atop the roof, there will be a Flood soemthing that will jump across
the street (roof to roof ala Predator). Shoot the enemy as he is jumping and
the skull will generally be flung off the roof and onto the street (restart if
you miss or if the enemy escapes). Multiple players firing on the enemy helps
ease the pressure of any lone gunman.
(ABOVE) Locate the Covenant comm array to get your bearings straight. Head
into the city from that landmark.
(ABOVE) The building you are looking for is pictured on the right side of the
illustration.
(ABOVE) The skull carrying alien appears (this is a replay shot). It will
appear after the checkpoint and before you proceed onto the street (any player
but not the A.I. Arbiter).
(ABOVE) Normally, you aim near this spot and hose the guy before he makes his
jump. Having more players around increases your chances of killing this guy as
soon as he appears.
The Ark - Famine Skull
Effect
Weapons hold less ammunition.
Preparation
Secure a deployable cover item. Kill the Brutes at the beginning and at the
clearing near the Cartographer's Room and you may find one. Keep it with you!
Location
After Sgt. Johnson orders players to locate the Map Room "on the other side of
this wall", follow his Pelican to another rib structure (similar to the
Cartographer's Room). Stop there and use the rocks to get atop the structure.
From atop the structure, locate the Covenant communications array on the
ground; that array is near the rib where the skull is. To get on top of the
rib, simply use the deployable cover as a stepping stone (place it on the
slope) and jump up.
(ABOVE) Follow Johnson's Pelican once you reach the locked entrance (you can
see Johnson's Pelican disappearing around the rock). The skull is on one of
those support butresses in the distance.
(ABOVE) Go under the support arcade and locate a suitable piece of rock to
reach the top.
(ABOVE) Once on top, locate the support near the Covenant antennae. That'll be
the spar where the skull will be.
(ABOVE) Use the deployable cover item you've been saving up on the slope.
(ABOVE) Hop onto the blue forcefield and again to reach the skull.
The Ark - Cowbell Skull
Effect
Explosions are greatly enhanced.
Preparation
Secure a gravity lift item. On the beach where you fight the Scarab, there is
a small brown structure with three portable gravity lifts. Take them after
destroying the Scarab so you can reach this target.
Location
Head into the Map Room after defeating the Scarab. There will be a large two-
level room with a purple energy column right before the room with the skull.
The room with the skull has a long ramp (going down) and several cubbyholes
stacked vertically at the bottom of the ramp; players need to use the gravity
lift to boost their jumps to the top-most cubby where the skull is placed.
(ABOVE) The small building where the Scarab lands near holds several gravity
lifts you need to hold onto for this skull. Pay it a visit after killing the
Scarab.
(ABOVE) Once inside the Cartographer's facility, locate this two-level room
with a purple energy column. The next room you go to will have the skull.
(ABOVE) Just past the room above, you will find a long ramp and a series of
vertical cubby holes. The top-most niche has the skull.
(ABOVE) Placement of the gravity lift is crucial (restart from the checkpoint
if you fail). The best spot is about a third down the ramp and centered. Note
that Master Chief can jump and then hit the gravity lift for extra height.
Covenant - Thunderstorm Skull
Effect
Enemies rank promoted (no known effect -- aggression enhancement perhaps).
Preparation
None, since the Hornet is provided anyway.
Location
After destroying the first anti-air node, Hornets will be dropped so players
can find and assist Sgt. Johnson's team on the third anti-air node. Take a
brief detour to the second anti-air node (the one the Elites took out) -- it
looks like an Egyptian Ibis head set into the cliff. Land on that structure
and locate the skull on the tip of the building's "nose".
(ABOVE) Grab a Hornet after shutting down the first energy node and fly to the
second energy node.
(ABOVE) Upon closer inspection, there is a skull in your Forerunner structure.
Covenant - IWHBYD Skull
Effect
Purportedly displays commentary by the game designers while the game is
running.
Preparation
None, except your patience. Having more players will speed up the process.
Location
After destroying both Scarabs, players will enter the Ark Citadel building.
Inside, there are seven rings, separated by three rooms. The Prophet of Truth
will be at one end, the Ark's entrance will be at the other. Mentally number
the rings in order from the entrance (1, 2, room, 3, 4, 5, room, 6, 7, Prophet
of Truth). Meet the Prophet of Truth first, then clear out the enemies back to
the entrance (but don't leave just yet). Players must now jump through the
following rings in this order:
4 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 5 - 3 - 4
Only one player needs to do this (other players can wait, or jump through one
of the rings in the sequence, allowing the first player to skip that ring in
the sequence). If a mistake is made during the sequence, it may be restarted
from the first set of jumps without penalty. Once the last ring is jumped
through, the skull will teleport onto the platform where the "extend bridge"
switch was (thus why you need to meet the Prophet first before doing this
sequence). On single screen mode, the rings will blink in sequence (as if
fired) if the sequence was done correctly. On split screen, the rings will not
blink at all. Note this sequence was shortened from the original
Halo3Planet.com posting by 75% -- Nate Ahearn has tested the sequence printed
in this file (any longer sequences have been long since discarded).
(ABOVE) There are seven rings in the Ark's firing room. Meet the Prophet of
Truth and then clear out the rest of the enemies before doing sequence.
(ABOVE) The skull appears where the bridge switch was, so everything needs to
be done "afterwards".
Cortana - Tilt Skull
Effect
Enemies have higher pain thresholds and do not stun easily.
Preparation
None.
Location
It is in the room where Cortana's voice will ask "Do you like playing games?"
Look for a purple console (may appear different as the ship is infested) that
allows you to jump onto the Flood made out-crops on the side of the room. The
skull is atop a large Flood tentacle and the challenge is getting to the top
without jumping and bouncing off the sides of the wall. If you cannot reach
the Flood made ledges from the purple console, know that Master Chief and
Arbiter can stand on the smaller (but higher) protrusion that makes up the
console and use that as a platform.
(ABOVE) To see how to do this is best done in replay (3rd person) mode. See
how Master Chief can stand atop the structure for the added height. If you
have deployable cover, you may be able to set it down and use that as well.
(ABOVE) The first jump from the console to the Flood ledge is possible,
despite how it would look in first-person.
(ABOVE) From the first Flood ledge, jumping to the next ledge is simple (just
don't jump with something above your head or you fall). From the second Flood
ledge, jump to the third and fourth ledges from the edges so you encounter no
obstructions.
(ABOVE) Here's what the ledges look like from the ceiling. The skull is off
the screen (where the vine ends).
Halo - Mythic Skull
Effect
Game's difficulty is boosted by one from the current setting (hence Mythic
difficulty).
Preparation
None.
Location
Upon landing on Halo, follow the right wall to the cave. In the cave, follow
the right wall to a dead-end with the skull.
(ABOVE) Step 1, locate the cave.
(ABOVE) Step 2, hug the right wall and locate the skull.
