Starting mid-December 2008, fans will be summoned back into Albion's service with the release of the Knothole Island downloadable content pack. The remote island of Knothole is dying: its golden sands and lush vegetation are covered with snow, its people freezing, its treasures buried. Only a hero can face the trials of the three shrines to bring back the sunshine.

Last week, Lionhead was all geared up to make a big Fable 2 announcement but Microsoft told them to hold off until this week. No delay this time, as Molyneux and company have delivered their news. According to the official Lionhead blog (via Gamasutra), Fable 2 will see its first batch of free and paid downloadable content sometime in "mid-December."

The paid "premium" content will cost 800 Microsoft Points ($10) and consist mainly of a dying snow-covered island called Knothole, where "new quests, wondrous items, and bizarre characters" await. Heroes will be tasked with the "trials of the three shines" in order to bring light back to the frigid region. Unfortunately, if another player wants to join you for some quests in Knothole, they too will need to download the premium content.

Meanwhile, for the more miserly gamers, a free download pack will include "Knight's Boots, Assassin's Gloves, a special Weight Loss Potion, collectible silver book, and more." Good to know that there will be enjoyable new things for players of all wallet sizes. Like I always say, decide with your money if the DLC is worth it, but at least you still get a bonus if you don't think it is worth paying.
