Yup, Resident Evil HD Remaster was a surprise success in a sea of dissapointment, becoming like the top selling digital only PSN game of all time on PS4 or something like that.

Which lead to RE:2 being greenlit. While RE7
did save the franchise objectively, it can be

argued the real "heroes" were Revelations 1, Revelations 2, & the HD Remaster of Resident Evil. There's a reason the directors of Rev 1 & Rev 2 have been the people directing most of the newer RE games, & the current line of Remakes wouldn't have happened if REmake 1's

hadn't done so surprisingly well.

Though obviously RE Engine, with RE7 being the premiere title for the engine, also plays a huge hand in all of this too.
